The page editor, rebuilt

  • The page editor now shows your page as your website draws it. Before, each block sat on its own grey card, so the editor looked little like the page it was making. Now sections run edge to edge with the same spacing and colors as the live page, your website's header sits on top and its footer at the bottom. Click the footer to change it.
  • Your page saves itself as you work. A small Saving then Saved shows by the title, and once a draft is published the chip reads Published. Before, you pressed Save draft yourself and a Draft pill hung over the title. The Save draft button is gone, and Publish does what it did.
  • Preview now shows the page exactly as your website will draw it when published, at the width you picked, and the pages tree steps aside. Before, Preview hid the editing tools and showed the editor's own drawing. Opening a page from the tree starts in preview. Press Edit to change it.
  • Every page keeps a History, in the ⋯ menu. A version is kept each time you publish and every ten minutes while you edit, and a version can be given a name. Pick one to see it on the page, then Restore it or go back to now. Restoring keeps today's copy in the history too, so nothing is lost. Unnamed versions older than 90 days are cleared.
  • Dragging a block now opens a gap where it will land, and the blocks around it move aside. Before, an orange line showed the spot and nothing moved. The grab handle sits in the left margin and has up and down arrows for moving a block a step at a time, and the settings, duplicate and delete buttons stay above the block.
  • A picked block can be removed with the Delete key, and an empty text block removes itself when you click away. The + for adding a block sits centered under the block you're pointing at.
  • Columns got their own settings: Layout (half and half, wide and narrow, narrow and wide), Line up (Top, Middle, Bottom or Spread) and how the columns stack on phones. The pencil on a column picks its background, and the line between two columns can be dragged to change their widths. A block inside a column has a Columns link in its tools to reach the row's settings. The three-column layout is gone from the menu, and any page already using it still draws.
  • The editor's top bar is simpler: the pages tree folds away behind one glyph by the title, the device switch sits in the middle, and the ⋯ menu holds History, Page settings, Open the live page, Share, Duplicate, Discard unpublished changes and Delete, each with an icon. Pages open full width while you edit.
  • On a phone, the page fills the screen, a back arrow by the title returns to the pages tree, and the eye beside ⋯ opens preview. In preview, Edit sits across from Publish. When a block is picked, its tools take the foot of the screen and the bottom tabs slide away.
  • The home page banner can now be centered. In its settings, Words has Left and Centered. Centered shows no Up next card, so that row of the settings is hidden.
  • Add on Home no longer offers Event. It reads: An event, an email, a form, a page? Ask the AI assistant. Every mention of the assistant now says AI assistant.
  • The small thumbnails under the home page slides are gone from the editor. Add a slide is in the banner's settings instead.

Two fixes

  • A new event is now saved once, even when one of its ticket lines needs fixing first. Before, the event was stored and the ticket line checked after, so each time you pressed Publish again with the line still wrong, another copy of the event was made. Now nothing is stored until the ticket lines are right.
  • An update you already emailed to an event's guests can now be deleted. Before, deleting it failed with an error. The same was true of deleting a giving page that had a sent update, and that works now too.

A faster admin

  • The admin answers faster, most of all on the West Coast and overseas. Measured from Seattle, opening a person went from 1.6 seconds to 0.4, and the People list from 1.9 seconds to 0.6. Before, each page asked our database several questions one after another, and every one of them traveled across the country and back.
  • Going back to the People list from a person now shows the list right away, where you left it. Before, the whole list loaded again every time you went back.
  • A person opened from the People list now has Previous and Next arrows at the top right of their page. They follow the list in the order it was showing, so you can go through a call list without going back to it after each person.
  • On a computer, the summary that opens when you click a person in the list now appears with almost no wait, and so does the next person when you press the up or down arrow.
  • An email or a text can now go to a list that keeps itself up to date: Donors, Donors this year, Monthly donors, New donors, Gave last year not this, Lapsed donors and Active. A list is read again when the email sends, so an email to Donors reaches someone who gave after you wrote it. Before, you could pick only everyone, a tag, or a view you had saved first. In an email, under Audience › Lists.
  • A view you save on People is now called a list, and the button reads Save as a list. Your saved ones show beside the ready-made ones in an email's Audience. Nothing you saved has changed.
  • The Quotes block is now called Testimonials in the list of blocks. Before, the list said Quotes while the block itself said Testimonials, so it was hard to find. Nothing on your pages changed.
  • If we could not read your old website because its address was mistyped, you can now correct it right there. On Home, open the old site row, fix the address and press Try this address. Before, the only button was Try again, which read the same wrong address.
  • You can now sign in from chabadwebsite.com. Press Sign in, type the email you use for your site, and we email you a link to your own admin. If you manage more than one site, the email has a button for each. Before, that page only worked for our own team, and no email came.
  • A private event now has a Publish button beside Save. One press makes it public and shows it in upcoming events. Before, the only way to publish was the Private · only you pill above the title.
  • An event that lists its services, with one ticket for all of them, can now be booked. Before, if no service took its own reservation, the price read per service and the button to reserve stayed grey.
  • Settings › Access now says that the contacts already on your phone are never copied into People. Only someone you add to the People address book on your phone comes in. Before, the words "in step both ways" could be read as if your own contacts would be sent over. The section is now called Your People list on your phone.
  • You can now record that someone paid cash, a check or Zelle for an event. + Add on Home has a new Guest row, and a person's page has Add to an event in its ⋯ menu. Pick the event and the tickets, then Paid, Owes, Send a pay link or No charge. It counts in the event's total and not as a gift, so no donation receipt goes out. Before, you could only add a guest from the event's own page, with nowhere to say they paid.
  • A guest who owes now has Mark paid on the guest list, and a pay link if you'd rather send one. Before, "owes" stayed on their name with no way to clear it.
  • Request a payment now sends someone a link to pay by card. It's in + Add on Home, in a person's ⋯ menu and on Payments. Say what it's for and whether it's a donation, which is on by default. Off, they get a payment confirmation and it stays out of giving totals. Email it, copy it or send it on WhatsApp.
  • A payment link now keeps working until it's paid or you cancel it, and waiting ones show on Payments and the person's Giving tab with Copy link, Resend and Cancel. Before, the link died after a day, could only start by email, and disappeared once sent.

Find who gave then and not now

  • You can now find who gave in certain dates and who didn't, such as who gave at the High Holidays last year and not this year. In People › Filters › Advanced filters, choose Gift dates, then gave between or did not give between, and two dates. Before, a filter could only look at someone's last gift or a calendar year, so a person who gave at Rosh Hashanah and again at Chanukah but not this year was hard to find.
  • Giving page or fund works the same way, with gave to or did not give to. The list includes the funds on your imported gifts. Tickets and pledges don't count as gifts, and did not give counts a gift from anyone in the family.
  • The assistant now answers these questions from the same filters and gives you a link to the list. Before, it could only look at a moving window of dates and name a few people. Ask something like who gave at the High Holidays last year and hasn't given this year.
  • The assistant now builds a page from screenshots of your website using only what they show. Before, it could add a form or a category, and the screenshot became the page's cover. Photos in a screenshot don't come through, so add yours once the page is made.
  • You can send the assistant up to 10 files in one message, up from 4, and a very long screenshot is split so it stays readable. Before, files past the limit were dropped without a word.
  • Adding a second guest in an event's registration drawer no longer pushes the form past the edge. Before, the right side of the form was cut off, including the + button.
  • You have more control over the emails we send you. For gifts and pledges, paid registrations, RSVPs, messages and new people, choose an email Right away, one summary in the Morning note, or Off. Each admin sets their own, and what you had before carries over. Before, there were only on and off switches, and gifts could not go in the morning note. In Settings › Notifications.
  • A paid event registration now emails you the moment it comes in, with the name, the event's date, the ticket, what was paid, how many are coming, and their email and phone. Replying goes to them. Before, you waited for the next morning, and Stripe's own email showed only a number. Turn it off with Paid registrations in Settings › Notifications.
  • The time Shabbat and Yom Tov end now matches Chabad.org everywhere it shows on your site and in your emails. It's when the sun is 8.5 degrees below the horizon. Before, it was always 50 minutes after sunset, so in Tampa this week it read 6:31 instead of 6:18.
  • In the weekly schedule, each line now has a trash icon to remove it. Before, it was in a menu that was easy to miss.
  • Connecting your domain now takes four steps in one drawer. You type it, we show where it's registered and where your email runs, we copy your records, and you change two nameservers, with steps for IONOS, GoDaddy, Squarespace, Network Solutions and Namecheap. We email you when it's live. Before, you added records by hand. That way is now under Other ways to connect.
  • If someone else holds your domain login, Someone else manages my domain gives you a message to send them, by copy or on WhatsApp.
  • The setting that lets donors add the card fee to their gift is fixed. Before, the switch could read off while donors were still being offered it, and pressing it reset how the fee was asked. If you set this before November 4, check that it still says what you want. In Settings › Payments › Offer the tick.
  • The assistant is now a small button at the bottom right of every admin screen, including the event and website editors. It opens as a small window over the page, and you can keep working behind it. Before, it was a panel that darkened the page, and the button wasn't there in the editors. It replaces Ask anything at the bottom of the sidebar. ⌘/ still opens it.
  • The assistant's expand button opens it in full view with your sidebar still there. Minimizing keeps what you typed and any answer on its way.
  • The assistant now knows which page you have open, so you can say "this" on an event, person, form, website page or campaign. Its suggestions match too: on an event you'll see Who is coming and Draft an invitation. It still reads what's saved, not edits you haven't saved yet.
  • Slides on a photo at the top of your site are darker, so the words are easier to read on a bright picture. Before, a light photo could wash them out.
  • On a phone, when the thin candle lighting strip sits right above Events, your next event is now the first card in the row. Before, it was a separate card between the two. On a computer it stays on the banner.
  • On a phone, the Events heading now sits closer to its cards. Before, there was a wide gap between them.
  • On a campaign page, a long headline now wraps before it reaches the giving box. Before, it could run right up against the box.
  • Domain & email is now one row per thing, and each row opens a drawer. Before, it was one long page. Your own domain sits on top once it's connected, with the address your site came with under it as Base address. To buy a domain or change yours, it's all in the domain's drawer.
  • The thin candle lighting strip now says which time it is: Shabbat candle lighting 4:24 PM, and once candles are lit it turns to Shabbat ends 5:24 PM by itself. Before, it said only Candles.
  • Opening the strip now shows the candle lighting and end times large, with the parsha and your town above them, beside this week's list. The town is the first one in your Website settings, or the city in your public address. Before, the times weren't in the opened part at all.
  • In the opened strip, Sponsor this week's kiddush is now a plain link under a line, level with Full calendar, with Next holiday just above the line. Before, the kiddush was a large button in a column with empty space under it. On a phone it all runs down one column.
  • On a phone, the assistant button now shows on Home from the top of the page, as it does on every other screen. Before, it appeared only after you scrolled down.
  • The arrows on a row of events now stay level with the Events heading at every screen width. Before, on a laptop they sat higher than the heading, close to the block above.
  • Opening an RSVP, gift or message on Home now shows their email and phone, and for an RSVP the event's date, the ticket, what was paid and how many are coming. A button goes to the person's page and another to the event. Before, it showed one line, a note they hadn't written, and a link that only went to the event.

Apply a gift to a pledge, form answers in To do, and clearer birthdays

  • A program can look like its own website, with its own colors, logo and menu. See it on our demo: Hebrew School and CTeen are mini-sites with their own menu. CYP is a single page with its own colors and logo.
  • A gift already on the record can now count toward a pledge. In the pledge's menu on Payments › Pledges, or on the person's Giving tab, choose Apply a gift and pick the gift. Before, only a gift logged by hand could be tied to a pledge, so a gift by card left the pledge showing unpaid. To undo it, open the gift and press Take it off.
  • A form reply in To do now shows the person's answers and says they filled out the form. Before, the answers showed only with Replies are inquiries on. Otherwise it said they sent a message and showed nothing, though the answers were saved.
  • This week on your home now gives a birthday's age and its date, such as 14th birthday, Today, 23 Cheshvan. A birthday on the English calendar says English date. Before, it gave only the name and the day, so it could seem to disagree with the date on the person's page.
  • Website settings › Footer now has a field for the address your website shows, so you can show only your town and postcode. Before, it was your full address or nothing. It follows your center's address until you change it. Receipts and letters always keep your full address.
  • A new Table block shows rows and columns on any page, like tuition by grade or class times. Add it from a page's + menu. On a phone each row becomes its own card, so nothing scrolls sideways. It only shows words, so a form still sets the prices.
  • A mini-site with no logo of its own now shows the Chabad mark, a line, then Chabad over the program's name, in the program's colors. Before, it showed your whole logo and the name beside it.
  • A banner can now show a program's logo above its words, so the title stays as text. A graphic set in place of the title now shows at the top of a page too. Before, the words showed there instead.
  • Publishing a subpage now leaves it under its parent page. Before, publishing moved it out to a page of its own, with your site's colors. If one of yours moved, drag it back under its parent, or tell us and we'll do it.
  • Highlights set to Cards now have a softer shadow, more room inside and no outline, and their titles are no longer in capitals. Cards can also take your Secondary color.
  • In Page settings, Text style and Colors are now together under Theme. Colors can also have a third color, for tiles that take turns.
  • A new Facts block shows one to four short facts in a strip, like when, who and cost, with a button if you want one. It's meant for just under a program's banner. Add it from a page's + menu.
  • Photo tiles set to Carousel can now use colors in place of photos, taking turns between your colors. Choose Colors in the block's drawer.
  • Big rows on your home, like Shabbat or Learning, are now a size smaller. If one row's small line doesn't fit beside its word, they all go underneath, so the rows match. Before, some sat beside and some underneath.
  • Highlights with icons now show the icon alone, with more room under the section title. Before, each icon sat in a circle.
  • A location like Venue TBC or TBA no longer links to a map search on the event's page. The assistant now marks an event like that as Location to be announced when a flyer says so.
  • You can now set your own reminders. In + Add on your Home, choose Reminder, write what to do, and pick a person and a day if you want. On its day it shows in To do. You can also add one from a person's menu, or tell the assistant to remind you.
  • You can now keep someone on your Home list by hand. On a person's menu, choose Add to Cultivate and they show first in Donors to cultivate. Before, that list was only worked out from giving.
  • Any saved view on People can now be a section on your Home, such as Board or Monthly donors. Turn it on from the sliders button beside + Add. It shows three names, and the heading opens the view.
  • A monthly donor who gives through another service on your Stripe, like Donorbox, can now be tracked as a partner. Add them under Partners with By set to Card elsewhere. Each charge then files as their monthly gift with no task. Before, each charge came in as a new gift to look at. If they already have gifts of that amount on file, you can mark those as monthly too.
  • The next event card on a banner now works on any page. In the banner's drawer, turn on Next event and choose a tag under Events tagged, and it shows the next event with that tag. Before, it only showed on your home and on a mini-site.
  • Past events on a program's page now show as small cards with a picture, a name and a date, up to two rows of five, with a link to the rest. Before, they were large cards in a section for each year, as long as your history.
  • Your Events page has a filter icon beside its title once a page on your site shows a program's events, so a visitor can see just that program, past events included, by year. Tags that no page shows stay private.
  • Turning off Next event on your home banner now stays off. Before, the switch went back on when you saved.
  • On a big screen, a page's paragraphs now start at the same edge as its banner, in larger words, up to 960 pixels wide. A video and a section title keep to the same width, so they all end at one edge. Before, the words stayed small in a narrow column in the middle, and a video ran wider than the words around it. Under a centered banner they stay centered.
  • Your website's footer is now as wide as your header on every page. Before, it narrowed to match a page of mostly words.
  • The slim candle times strip now sits close to the section below it. Before, a strip in a section of its own had a wide gap above and below it.
  • On a mini-site, the bar that leads back to your main website is now dark like your footer, taller and in larger words. Before, it was a thin grey strip that was easy to miss.
  • On a club's Partners tab, you can now remove a partner added by mistake. In the row's menu, choose Remove. Gifts already recorded stay. Each row also links straight to its name on the wall: Add to the wall or Change. Before, you could only mark a partner as ended, and the wall was inside Edit.
  • The fee tick now reads Cover the card fee, with the amount under it, and the button shows the total. Before, the amount was in a longer sentence.
  • In Settings › Payments, How it's asked now has Ask on, so the tick can show on giving pages only. Before, it showed everywhere money is taken, including events and forms. Everywhere is still the default.
  • Payments no longer offer Stripe's Link wallet at checkout, because Link emails its own receipt. Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay are unchanged.
  • Settings › Payments now has a Receipts section that links to the Stripe switch for its receipt, so a donor gets only yours. Before, a donor could get three receipts for one gift.
  • A banner's second button can now open a form in a side panel. In the banner's drawer, choose A form under It opens, then pick the form. Before, the second button could only be a link.
  • A page with subpages now lists itself first in its dropdown, so About opens with About, then Meet the Team. The dropdown under Events now starts with All events. Before, you had to know that the word at the top of the dropdown was a link.
  • On a mini-site, a subpage with no banner of its own now shows its own title, without the main page's words, buttons or next event card. Before, it repeated the main page's banner.

Mini-sites, a slim Shabbat times line and better People search

  • Website
  • Pages now have three layouts. Page is a single page. Tabbed page keeps your site's menu and adds a menu under the banner, which suits an About page with Our Rabbi, Our Story and Contact. Mini-site swaps your site's menu for the program's own logo and menu, with a thin bar back to your site, so something like a Hebrew school gets its own focus. Choose one in Page settings under Layout.
  • Mini-sites are a first draft of the idea and we know they have bugs. More updates are coming in the next few weeks.
  • We are moving away from page sections shown as tabs to one idea: subpages. A Tabbed page and a Mini-site use the same subpages, and a subpage can also be a link to another site. If one of your pages had tabs, we moved them over for you and their old links still work.
  • Enable page is now Visibility, with three choices: In the menu, Link only and Private. How a page shows is now Layout. Both are in Page settings.
  • The This week block can show two ways: the full block, or a slim line with candle time, end time and the parsha that opens in place to the whole week. On a phone the slim line sits right under your banner, with your next event below it. Choose it on the block under Show as.
  • The This week block can also open your weekly schedule, set the town for Shabbat times, and turn Sponsor kiddush and Next holiday on or off.
  • With one event coming up, your home shows it once, as a wide card under Events. It used to appear in the banner card, in This week and in Events.
  • Classic pages now read like your home page, with titles in the serif and paragraphs in clean letters. Before, Classic set paragraphs in the serif too. Modern sets everything in clean letters.
  • A page can now have its own colors instead of your brand colors, so a Women's Circle page can be pink. Its banner, buttons and links use them, and if you use the default Chabad logo, the logo in the header changes to match on that page. A logo you uploaded stays as it is. Set them in Page settings under Colors.
  • A banner's background is now one choice: Color, Brand shader, Photo, Flyer or Video. Click the banner to pick it.
  • You can keep your address off your public site and still have it on receipts and letters. Website settings › Footer sets the address to Private and turns phone, email and social links on or off.
  • People
  • People search now finds a town, street, postcode, tag or the notes on a person, with the people it names first. Before, it read names, email, phone and work.
  • Two new lists: Donors at risk gave less in the last 12 months than the 12 before, or gave last year and nothing since. Donors to cultivate made a first gift in the last 12 months, or are giving more. Both show on Home with three names each once a center has 20 or more donors, and a heading opens the whole list. Turn either on or off from the button beside + Add.
  • Donors by year on People shows each donor's last five years side by side, and you can sort by any year. Save it as a view to keep it, and Export carries the year columns.
  • A route's link for drivers now shows the family's name and first names, like the route in your dashboard. Before, it showed first names only. On an iPhone, a driver can switch the Go button between Apple Maps and Google Maps, and the phone remembers.
  • Email and texts
  • You can add and leave out lists on one email or text: tags, saved views, or who gave to a campaign. Before, an email went to one tag or one view. On a scheduled email the lists are read again when it goes, so someone who gave since is skipped.
  • A saved view built on a list like Ask now reaches its people when you email it. It used to reach no one.
  • Duplicating an email now keeps its look, preview text and who it goes to. Before, the copy started over.
  • Newsletter sign-ups now turn bots away: a hidden field only a bot fills in, a name holding a link, and throwaway mail services. Nobody is added and no welcome email goes.
  • Giving
  • You can add a monthly donor who gives by bank transfer, check or another platform, with no giving page needed. Use Payments › Monthly or + Monthly on their person page. An import can carry a Monthly column too, yes or no or the amount.
  • Payments › Totals adds up giving by year, or within a year by campaign, month or how they paid. A year or a campaign opens its gifts, and you can download the table.
  • A monthly gift made on your site now records each month as a monthly gift, with its receipt, and the plan shows its last payment and next date. Before, a renewal could show as a gift taken outside the site, with no receipt.
  • Deleting a giving page that has empty sponsorship slots now works. It used to fail with an error. A page with sponsors, partners or pledges stays and says why.
  • Speed
  • Your site now loads faster, most of all on a phone. Pictures are sent at the size they show. On the home pages we tested, pictures went from 1.4 to 3.4 MB down to 150 KB to 1.3 MB. Pages also load far less styling. You don't need to do anything, and your original pictures stay as you uploaded them.
